About the Event

Run Wild is an inclusive youth trail running program that weaves together movement, nature, and self-discovery. Open to all paces, this six-week journey helps youth build confidence, resilience, and a lasting connection to the outdoors. Led by experienced trail runners and mental health professionals, each session creates space for both physical challenge and personal growth.

TRAILBLAZER GROUP

This group is ideal for younger runners who are new to trail running or have some experience but are still growing their endurance and confidence. While beginner-friendly, Trailblazer also includes just the right amount of challenge—supporting participants to move through discomfort, try new things, and feel proud of what they accomplish each week.

We’ll explore gentle local trails at a relaxed pace, focusing on fun, form, and lessons along the way.

🌿 For: Runners typically ages 7–12, whether brand new to running or still building comfort with longer distances.

🗓️ Schedule: Wednesdays from 4:30–6 PM

Six weekly sessions: Oct 1, Oct 8, 15, 22 & 29 (Ojai-area trail locations vary weekly and will be emailed in advance.)

🎒 Gear: Each participant will need grippy athletic shoes, a handheld water bottle or vest, and comfy clothes to run and play in.

WHAT TO EXPECT:

🏃‍♀️ Movement & Trail Skills: Each session includes warm-ups, guided trail time (walk/jog/run), and outdoor games that support movement, teamwork, and trail confidence.

👐 Supportive & Encouraging: This non-competitive group welcomes all paces. Runners find their own pace while being encouraged by facilitators to push themselves while listening to their body.

🌱 Confidence & Connection: Facilitators create space for group connection and mindful reflection, helping youth connect not only to their bodies but to nature, each other, and themselves.

☀️ Heat Awareness: Fall in Ojai can be warm! We select shaded trails when possible and adapt our sessions to stay safe in the heat—but please register knowing warm weather will be part of the season and water is a must. Events will only be canceled in cases of extreme temperatures.

🌟 ACCESSIBILITY & WELLNESS COMMITMENT

No prior experience needed. All trail skills and pacing guidance are included.

Breaking Barriers: If your family needs support with transportation, gear, or cost, we’re here to help. Just reach out—scholarships are available by requesting here.

Why it matters: Run Wild offers more than just physical activity—it gives youth a space to build resilience, explore their capabilities, and experience the joy of movement in nature.
