About the Event

Run Wild is an inclusive youth trail running program that weaves together movement, nature, and self-discovery. This six-week journey helps youth build confidence, resilience, and a lasting connection to the outdoors. Led by experienced trail runners and mental health professionals, each session creates space for both physical challenge and personal growth.

RUN WILD – SUMMITEER GROUP

Summiteer is for youth runners with some experience who are excited to challenge themselves with longer distances, steeper trails, and deeper self-discovery. Whether they’re returning to Run Wild or simply confident on the trail, this group is all about leveling up—physically, mentally, and emotionally. Each week, participants will progress on mileage, explore new trails, and strengthen their relationship with the outdoors and themselves. While we’ll sweat and summit, we’ll also pause for group check-ins, reflection, and moments of connection along the way.

🌿 For: Summiteers are typically ages 11-17, BE SURE YOUR CHILD IS IN THIS AGE RANGE AND READY FOR A CHALLENGE

🗓️ Schedule: Tuesdays from 4:30–6 PM

Six weekly sessions: Sept 23, 30, Oct 7, 14, 21 & 28 (Ojai-area trail locations vary weekly and will be emailed in advance.)

🎒 Gear: Runners should wear grippy athletic shoes, bring a handheld water bottle or hydration vest, and dress in breathable, movement-friendly clothes. A small pack is optional. We’re happy to support with gear if needed—just ask!

WHAT TO EXPECT

⛰ Challenging Trail Runs: We’ll explore some of Ojai’s moderate and advanced trails, with gradual increases in distance and elevation each week—aiming for 3–5+ miles by the final session. Think Sulphur Mountain, Fox Canyon, and other local gems.

🧠 Mental Resilience + Reflection: Each session includes brief pauses for reflection and discussion around growth, effort, mindset, and peer support. We’ll normalize the discomfort that comes with pushing limits—and celebrate each step forward.

🤝 Supportive Community: While this group is physically challenging, it remains welcoming and non-competitive. Facilitators will support all levels within the “advanced” range and help youth tune into their own pacing and growth.

☀️ Heat Expectations: Ojai can stay hot into early fall! We’ll prioritize shaded routes and smart pacing, but warm weather will be part of the experience. Sessions will only be canceled for extreme or unsafe heat.

🌟 ACCESSIBILITY & WELLNESS COMMITMENT

Breaking Barriers: If your family needs support with transportation, gear, or cost, we’re here to help. Just reach out—scholarships are available by requesting here.

Why it matters: Run Wild offers more than just physical activity—it gives youth a space to build resilience, explore their capabilities, and experience the joy of movement in nature.
